Sugar Hill Creamery is Sending A Little Sweetness Your Way

By Julie Worthington, Reporter

"I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!"

Well, you heard it—now it's time to put those words into action. Stop by Sugar Hill Creamery at 3629 Broadway in Washington Heights for a sweet treat to put a little pep in your step.

They will be more than happy to scoop up some heavenly delights for you and your friends, family, and loved ones.

Manager Troy Ramsey-Robinson said that there are many delectable flavors of ice cream to choose from with cute names to match.

"Our most popular flavor is Blueberry Cheesecake," she said. They call this flavor Chairman of the Board.

Another popular one is vanilla ice cream mixed with Oreo cookies, vanilla wafers, and swirls of luscious caramel. This one they dubbed Hello New World.

One flavor you won't see around much longer is black licorice.

"The kids like it," she said, "but it doesn't have mass appeal."

When Robinson was asked what made her store unique, she said that EVERYTHING is homemade.

This includes the base, both vanilla and chocolate, and the ingredients and toppings.

"For example, we make our peach puree, peach gelee, brownie bites, candied peanuts, toasted walnuts, and glazed pecans," she said.

Scoop prices vary. A single scoop costs $4.90, a double scoop costs $7.89, and a triple scoop costs $9.80. A pint of ice cream is $11.98. At some locations in the city, you can also get ice cream cakes and ice cream sandwiches.

The ice cream makers sound like elves getting ready for Christmas.

"We work in the basement and make 20-30 tubs of ice cream per day," she said.

"It's all about technique," she added.

Robinson said the flow of customers is non-stop during the summer.

"The kids love it," she added.

"A lot of the parents don't eat Häagen-Dazs anymore. They would rather come here!"
